The acquisition of Biomedical Emporium by Austell Pharmaceuticals highlights Africa as the next pharma cosmetic frontier.

The special announcement of the merger of the two companies was made recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to a new dynamic leadership and sales team. Biomedical Emporium and Austell Pharmaceuticals will partner with this team to expand on their respective dermal biotechnology and pharma cosmetic series.

Austell, headed by CEO, Suhail Gani, is one of the fastest growing pharmaceutical companies in South Africa. For the past couple of years it has been expanding on its product ranges, with a pharma cosmetic series from Biomedical Emporium marking a powerful next step in this growth. The company has developed market-leading brands as well as prescription drugs and self-care medications in South Africa since its inception in 2005.

Dr Judey Pretorius traveled to Malaysia to make a formal and international announcement of the acquisition to the team who will be driving the merger project

Advances in wound healing

Dr Judey Pretorius is the founder of Biomedical Emporium, a biotechnology company specialising in the formulation of advanced biological products, cell culture processes and tissue engineering for advanced wound healing and an advisory on regenerative medicine. She has made unique formulation discoveries that have had a profound influence on the course of new developments in medical aesthetic and wound care treatments.

Demand for Biomedical Emporium‘s products has increased significantly in and outside of SA. This high demand called for a partnership with Austell Pharmaceuticals to broaden the international footprint of the product series. Both Biomedical Emporium and Austell Pharmaceuticals will now expand on their respective product baskets, which will include pharma cosmetics, scheduled and OTC dermatological applications.

Seizing untapped opportunities

Not one to let the grass grow beneath her feet, celebrated biomedical scientist Dr Judey has taken this opportunity to grow her business beyond South African borders to service the specific dermal aesthetic needs of individuals worldwide.

Dr Judey says the time is now to seize these huge untapped opportunities, becoming the gateway to manufacture and export into African markets on the continent and abroad.
