Brenntag and Citribel expand citric acid partnership in EMEA

Brenntag Specialties Pharma expands its partnership with Citribel for citric acids and citrates pharma excipients for pharmaceutical customers across EMEA.

Brenntag Pharma announced the expansion of the collaboration with Citribel for the distribution of citric acids and citrates. In addition to the longtime cooperation in European pharma markets, customers in Israel, Turkey and South Africa now have access to these products.

Citric acids with distinctive properties

A unique surface fermentation is used to create premium bioproducts to provide high-quality citric acids and citrates with distinctive properties. Furthermore, sugar molasses, a byproduct from sugar refineries, serves as the primary raw material.

Citribel citric acids and citrates are supplied in the forms of:

• citric acid anhydrous
• citric acid monohydrate
• trisodium citrate dihydrate
• monosodium citrate anhydrous
• citric acid solution 50%.

These products are used in pharmaceutical production as acidifying, buffering, stabilising and chelating agents. They also form a mineral source. They can be used as a tablet disintegrant or for taste-masking.

Citribel is a truly circular producer of citric acid, citrates and other high-value co-products. Circularity is central to its production, using sugar molasses as a raw material. This approach results in a portfolio of inherently circular citric acids and citrates of the highest quality and purity, promoting further recycling and upcycling opportunities to the pharma industry.
