The merger between Brunel Laboratoria and Avid Brands, finalised at shareholder level in November 2025, marks a significant milestone in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry. Operating under the Brunel Laboratoria name, it combines the strengths of both companies to create a powerhouse in pharmacy distribution and retail relationships.
Michiel Venter, chief executive officer of Brunel Laboratoria, comments: “This merger brings together two South African businesses with diverse strengths and a shared opportunity for growth. Brunel Laboratoria has built strong capabilities in pharmacy and distribution, while Avid has developed strong retail relationships and a portfolio of established brands. Bringing these strengths together creates a more capable business, with the scale and resources to serve our customers and partners more effectively.”

Strengthening operations and expanding reach
The unified company now manages a portfolio of 37 well-established healthcare, personal care and pharmaceutical brands, including Lipsano, Nu-Hair, Famucaps, HR Hair Care, Myoprin, Prodol, Sinulex, and Floradix. This strategic integration aims to streamline operations across sales, marketing, supply chain, warehousing and support functions.
Headquartered in Gauteng, with a satellite office in Durban, Brunel Laboratoria operates a SAHPRA-licensed 1 800 m² temperature-controlled distribution facility in Centurion. This facility serves over 1 700 active accounts monthly, ensuring continuity for existing customers while focusing on brand availability, product development, and growth.
The merger also brings an expanded field salesforce and dedicated leadership for retail and pharmacy channels, strengthening customer relationships across South Africa’s pharmacy and major retail sectors.
