Vantage Personal Care’s BP-Triluronic Acid offers significant value compared to the essential benefits of standard hyaluronic acid. Combining three different molecular weight fractions of natural HA, this hero ingredient is designed to work on all layers of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is one of the most widely recognised polysaccharides. It has renowned water binding properties that help skin retain its moisture. Although this clear lubricating substance is naturally produced by the human body with the largest quantities found in our skin’s connective tissue and in our eyes – over a third of it is lost daily.

HA is most abundant in young healthy skin. It is plentiful in infancy and adolescence and decreases as we age. Typically, by mid-life span native production of HA is halved and continues in sharp decline as you get older. Ageing, environmental stresses and fluctuations in hormone levels are among the many possible causes that contribute to the loss of HA. Backed by many studies over the years, topical HA has been found to effectively increase skin’s hydration levels helping to reduce inflammation, wrinkles, redness and dermatitis. Aside from its ability to pull moisture to the skin, HA can signal skin’s cells – yet this property is highly dependent on the molecular weight of the HA.

Multilevel skin support

BP-Triluronic Acid is a combination of three different molecular weight fractions of natural HA produced through fermentation. It is available in liquid, powder and anhydrous varieties.

BP-Triluronic Acid synergistically deploys its specific benefits to the epidermis making the layers of the skin more available and receptive to the beneficial effects of all skin care actives. It also improves the appearance of skin, helping it to appear younger, healthier and more supple. It consists of three different molecular weight fractions of HA:

  • High molecular weight HA supports skin barrier repair, and it firms, lifts, soothes, moisturises and hydrates the skin.
  • Mid molecular weight HA penetrates deeper into the stratum corneum, stimulates corneocyte differentiation and protects skins natural moisturising factor (NMF). It also restores moisture, soothes irritation and rejuvenates sensitive, dry and damaged skin.
  • Low molecular weight HA penetrates deeper into the epidermis, induces the production of native HA and aids in proliferation of the keratinocytes.

A true hero ingredient

It is well established in scientific literature that HA of different molecular weights has different effects on the skin. Low molecular weight HA is most effective for skin hydration, while medium molecular weight HA is shown to be most effective for skin elasticity, with some activity from low and high molecular weight HA. High molecular weight HA showed to be most effective on average wrinkles, while low molecular weight HA performed best on deep wrinkles.

HA also has a positive impact on skin barrier function. To validate this, adult human epidermal keratinocytes were used to study the effects of BP-Triluronic Acid solution on the production of a key protein found in skin’s cells known as the extracellular matrix-III (ECM-III). ECM 111 is a protein that binds to HA in skin’s viable epidermis. It is also known as the hyaluronate receptor protein and plays a fundamental role in the growth of skin and the formation of the skin barrier, while being an important cell adhesion molecule.

Dibutyryl Cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate (DbcAMP), a sole permeable form of cAMP, was used in the study as a positive control because of its known ability to increase HA synthesis in fibroblasts and keratinocytes. Results revealed that 1.0% BP-Triluronic Acid solution effectively stimulates the production of ECM-III, proving its efficacy in supporting the overall skin health and barrier formation.

BP-Triluronic Acid from Vantage Personal Care offers many benefits in skin care applications through its diverse range of molecular weight fractions. It is produced through fermentation followed by carefully cleaving high molecular weight HA into smaller fractions of three different molecular weights. Each of the smaller fractions is specifically tailored to optimise the performance of finished products. The balanced ratio of high to low fractions is designed for skin moisturisation and enhanced skin penetration while the mid fractions work to achieve the ideal NMF. Recommended applications include skin care, makeup, hair care and body care products with anti-ageing, hydrating, soothing and barrier function benefits.
