Evonik will introduce advanced downstream fermentation technology, enhancing the group’s drug-substance contract manufacturing capabilities. The project is expected to create around 50 new jobs, further boosting the local economy.

A second major investment at Fermas

This marks the second major investment at the Fermas site, following the establishment of a rhamnolipids plant in 2022. Fermas, originally founded in 1992 and fully acquired by Evonik in 1998, has evolved from amino-acid production into a leading biotechnology hub. The site now produces fermentation-based ingredients for various industries, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, personal care, and animal nutrition.

Sustainable and scalable production

Evonik’s biotechnology expansion in Slovakia aligns with its commitment to scalable, reliable, and sustainable production, known as Next Generation Solutions. It also strengthens the company’s biotechnology capabilities, supports regional employment, and caters to the needs of major life-science customers.
