PURELAB Chorus 1 delivers ultrapure water to NAFDAC

ELGA and LS Scientific recently embarked on an innovative project to deliver a continuous and reliable supply of ultrapure water to NAFDAC for use in its laboratory.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is a federal agency under the Federal Ministry of Health. It is responsible for regulating and controlling the manufacture, importation, exportation, advertisement, distribution, sale and use of food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals and packaged water in Nigeria. The formation of NAFDAC was inspired by a 1988 World Health Assembly resolution requesting countries’ help in combating the global health threat posed by counterfeit pharmaceuticals.

Under Nigeria’s health and safety law, NAFDAC was established in 1993 to defeat illicit and counterfeit products in the country, with the goal of eliminating counterfeit pharmaceuticals, foods and beverage products not manufactured in Nigeria. The federal agency also ensures that available medicines are safe and effective.

A trusted partner

Within its laboratory, NAFDAC needed a reliable and trusted partner that could deliver a continuous supply of ultrapure water from tap water, with a low conductivity of <0.1μS/cm. This is especially for its HPLC and LC-MS applications and daily output. It was critical for NAFDAC’s applications that the water purification unit could provide treated water of <0.1μS/cm to 8ℓ/hr, <0.1 CFU/mℓ bacterial level and neutral in terms of the pH.

After a rigorous selection process and based on the immense support the federal agency has received from LS Scientific, NAFDAC decided to proceed with the PURELAB® Chorus 1 Complete 10 L/H and 60ℓ reservoir.

Since its installation, ELGA’s PURELAB® Chorus 1 Complete has assisted the NAFDAC laboratory in many ways, such as:

· saving costs of having to purchase bottled HPLC Grade 1 water and saving the time spent to do so

· improving the performance of laboratory analysis especially in daily LCMS and HPLC applications, thanks to the reliable supply of ultrapure water

· eliminating the disposal of large plastic water bottles, which had a negative impact on NAFDAC’s environmental footprint

· obtaining higher precision in results due to the low conductivity of the purified water.

Ultrapure water for many applications

PURELAB® Chorus 1 Complete provides a comprehensive solution from tap to ultrapure water direct from a potable water supply. It is ideal for laboratories needing up to 480ℓ of 18.2MΩ.cm ultrapure water. With its simple and ergonomic design and user-friendly interface, water can be dispensed directly from the system or from a choice of additional dispensers.
