A newly launched podcast series focuses on beauty and personal care trends that are defining and shaping the future of the industry’s development.
The podcast takes these trends apart and investigates the science behind them to give a balanced and unbiased insight into the latest in-vogue trends.

Investigating trends taking the industry by storm
The Beauty and Personal Care Conversation hosted by Natasha Spencer-Jolliffe, an experienced beauty and personal care journalist and editor, and Creative and Communications Director of Lion Spirit Media and Roaring Content, together with Belinda Carli, Director of Institute of Personal Care Science, will focus on a specific beauty trend in each episode.
Each podcast will weave together narration and scientific reasoning to fully investigate all aspects of current trends taking the industry by storm. The industry experts will also discuss some of the regulatory and formulation challenges faced with innovative trends as they emerge. Each episode will focus on what brands need to be aware of and understand to stay ahead with exciting, compliant and effective developments.
Ingestible beauty
The first podcast, The ingestible beauty trend: hard to swallow, concentrates on ingestible beauty and the opportunities and trends in this beauty space, together with the regulatory and evidence-based issues with developing and marketing ingestible beauty pills and powders.
Spencer-Jolliffe says: “With the increasing consumer demand for wellness solutions and supplements, we’re seeing a growth in ingestible beauty launches around the world. As the saying goes, ‘you are what you eat’, but can a supplement really provide better hair, skin and nails—or is the truth harder to swallow when it comes to ingestible solutions?”
“We have to remember that once a product is ingested, it is no longer under cosmetic regulations,” Carli notes.
“Ingestible brands cannot imply that a supplement is going to do more than dietary intake could do unless we have the evidence to support that,” she adds.
Spencer-Jolliffe says: “Together with Belinda, we delve into every aspect of this phenomenon and find out if it is too good to be true or if the future of ingestibles is bright for the beauty industry.”
Wellness in Beauty
The second podcast, Wellness in Beauty & Personal Care: Insights, Regulations and Opportunities will be available from 12 May. COVID-19 has brought the importance of wellness to the forefront. Increased health consciousness and self-care has been fuelled by the pandemic as consumers look for methods to contribute positively to their holistic health.
“The next episode of the Beauty and Personal Care Conversation will be a really interesting one and I am looking forward to getting my teeth into it,” says Spencer-Jolliffe.
“We will look at the consumer trend towards wellness and taking care of oneself. Are wellness products really beneficial or are they full of empty promise? We will look at how companies are currently approaching marketing their products with health claims, delve into if they are what they appear to be, and explore where the opportunities lie for wellness beauty and personal care brands to build a connection with consumers.”
