Antioxidants are ideal ingredients to protect the hair and scalp from harmful molecules like reactive oxygen species. Vantage offers an antioxidant-rich complex blend of ingredients proven to soothe the scalp and boost hair’s immunity.
Pollution particles, found in abundance in urban environments, bind to the hair’s surface, infiltrating the follicle and settling on the surface of the scalp.
According to international hair care brand Monpure, severe air pollution can alter the condition of the cuticle, giving hair a rough, brittle and dull appearance.
A study conducted in 2019 found that hair fibres exposed to higher average pollutant concentrations experienced increased damage to the hair cuticle and cortex. As pollutants penetrate inside the hair fibre, they cause chemical damage to the cuticle and the keratin proteins that make up hair.
When it comes to scalp health, pollution deposits can contribute to scalp itching, irritation, excess sebum production and dandruff, all of which can clog follicles, weakening the hair at the root and making it more susceptible to breakage and fallout.
Immune to the effects of ROS

Superior to well-known antioxidants
Dust molecules from air pollution which deposit on the scalp can result in the formation of ROS. To test whether SC-Help Defense can help reduce the formation of ROS, Vantage conducted a comparison study using trolox, a vitamin E derivative, and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT).
The results of the study show that 1% to 3% of SC-Help Defense is highly effective in helping to reduce the formation of ROS on the scalp and is superior to the two well-known antioxidants (see figure 1).
The complex is also effective in protecting the scalp from the effects of UVB rays and blue light. This was proven in two additional studies that showed that SC-Help Defense is superior to BHT, which showed no effect in protecting dermal papillae against UVB rays and blue light.
