Alpine Rose Active wins in-cosmetics Bronze Award

Alpine Rose Active has won in-cosmetics’ Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Bronze Award.

Only launched this year, Alpine Rose Active is the first cosmetic ingredient that was shown to express a senolytic activity in the skin. This novel anti-aging mechanism rejuvenates the skin by eliminating specifically senescent cells in a tissue, without harming normal cells. In addition, the active inhibits harmful protein carbonylation. This active ingredient is based on an organic extract from handpicked Swiss alpine rose leaves (Rhododendron ferrugineum).

Senolytics – a novel anti-aging concept

The formation and accumulation of senescent cells is one of the hallmarks of aging. In aging skin, senescent cells secrete signaling molecules that promote inflammation and can influence surrounding cells into also becoming senescent. Therefore, eliminating senescent cells has emerged as a promising anti-aging therapy in the medical field in the past few years. This novel concept known as “senolytics” helps to clear tissues of senescent cells without affecting healthy cells in order to reduce inflammation and rejuvenate the tissue. For the first time, this concept has been adapted for cosmetics.

Proven efficacy of Alpine Rose Active

In vitro testing demonstrated a clear senolytic activity of Alpine Rose Active on senescent fibroblasts. In clinical studies, Alpine Rose Active prevented the formation of protein carbonyls, one of the most harmful irreversible modifications of proteins, upon UVA irradiation. Alpine Rose Active therefore also prevents the formation of premature senescent cells which are known to be caused by UV and oxidative stress. In addition, treatment with Alpine Rose Active significantly reduced skin redness and increased elasticity in placebo-controlled clinical studies.

Alpine Rose Active is COSMOS approved and ECOCERT certified. It won the second prize in the category “Most Innovative Raw Material” at BSB Awards in 2020.
